何十年も原形を留めている革ジャンがあったらそれこそ「スリラー」(4)

Alex Keenan – One Day Of Your Life(1970/02)
Composer: Sedaka, Greenfield

Featuring the voice of musician, composer and vocalist, Alex Keenan, this he first of only three known versions of the Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield composition,’One Day Of Your Life’. In the late 1960’s, the Scottish singer was residing in London where he was signed on as a staff writer for Screen Gems-Columbia Music. That union garnered him a two single deal in the United States with the recording arm of the publishing company, Colgems Records. First out of the chute was the recording,’Tell Her You Love Her’ from the 1968 motion picture,’Otley’. It may have been included in a movie soundtrack but the second disc was the real winner and and an excellent example of 1970’s pop music at its finest. Released in the USA in February 1970, it was disc jockey, John Wada who broke the record in Hawaii when he was program director at KIKI AM990 radio in Honolulu. ‘One Day Of Your Life’ would ultimately reach the #1 position where it remained for a whopping 13 weeks. As fine as the recording was, it failed to chart nationally in the Billboard Top 100. Supposedly, Andy Williams was in Hawaii when the record was at its peak and upon returning to Los Angeles, he recorded and released his own version for Columbia Records in June 1970 when it reach #2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and #77 on the Hot 100. The last known version was by British vocalist, Ray Curtis whose record was released in October 1970 in the former African state of Rhodesia where it peaked at #3 and spent 11 weeks in the Top 20. The UK release of the Alex Keenan version was issued on RCA Victor in July 1970.
As for Mr. Keenan, after the Colgems period, there was one single in May 1971 after which he maintained a lucrative living in the music biz through background session work, radio and television, singing in various ensembles of groups and bands and entertaining in night clubs and pubs as a solo artist.
Alex Keenan passed away in 2015 at the age of 77.

Following his stint with Cadence Records, Andy Williams hopped promptly over to Columbia Records where he would actively record from 1961 to 1979. During that musical union, hit singles and albums galore were created including several now classic Christmas recordings. By the time the 1960’s turned into the 1970’s, Andy found chart success with producer Jerry Fuller. After that, he worked with producer Dick Glasser and arranger, Al Capps who was also involved during the Fuller productions. Presented here is one of those recordings. Composed by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield,’One Day Of Your Life’ is an absolute perfect example of 1970’s L.A.’Sunshine Pop’. The session for the song was held at Hollywood’s Western Recorders in May 1970 with members of L.A.’s’Wrecking Crew’ providing the backing track. The finished recording was eventually released a few weeks later on July 27th. The disc received quite a bit of radio play as well as Andy’s television performances promoting it. In the end, the record peaked at #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #77 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. Curiously,’One Day Of Your Life’ was only issued as a single and not included on any studio album.
