Barbara’s first major record hit was this Jule Styne-Bob Merrill ballad that she performed in her breakout role as Fanny Brice in the Broadway hit “Funny Girl” （and reprised in the 1968 film version that earned her an Academy Award）. This is the popular single release as opposed to the different version found on the Original Cast LP issued on the Capitol label.

スティーブ・ローレンスは初期のアルバム『Songs by Steve Lawrence』で、バディ・ノックスの『パーティー・ドール』やロカビリーの名作『ファビュラス（Fabulous）』をカバーしてます。このアルバムの時点ですでにシナトラ指向は明確でしたが、パットブーンなどとは違ってかなり器用な人で、ちゃんと“ロケンロー”してました。

『バシャナー・ハバアー（Bashanah Habaah＝In the coming year）』はイスラエル民謡（ユダヤ民謡）の中で一番好きな曲です。
来年は平和で実りの多い良い年になるよという歌で、宗教色は希薄。神に祈ろうといった言葉は出てきません。
イスラエルや各国のユダヤ人コミュニティーで、特に年末に歌われることの多いようです。
イスラエル民謡はシプシー（ロマ）の伝統音楽、ギリシャ民謡、ロシア民謡、スペイン民謡、中近東の民謡などとも相通ずるムードがあり、その哀愁を帯びた旋律は日本人の好むところでしょう。
かなり昔、ペギー葉山の『学生時代』を聴いていて、イスラエル民謡のテイストに近いものがあるなぁ、と感じたことがありました。
下の動画は、ベンチャーズ・スタイルのバンドが『バシャナー・ハバアー』を演奏している、私にとって非常に興味深い映像です。

松雪泰子や藤原紀香の『キャバレー』は外人にはちょっと見られたくないですが、元宝塚花組で男役トップだった春野寿美礼の『ファニー・ガール』なら大歓迎。
ちゃんと勉強し精進を重ねたこうした方々にこそ、どんどんミュージカルをやっていただきたい。
少しでも本場の舞台に迫るものを作ってもらいたいですね。
