Mexico earthquake: 7.5-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Mexico

(CNN) — A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico’s Guerrero state Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake occurred on the Pacific Coast between the major resort towns of Acapulco and Zijuatanejo during Holy Week, when Mexicans traditionally flock to the beaches and resorts run at full capacity.
The quake happened at 9:27 a.m. local time (10:27 a.m. ET) about 19 miles (31 kilometers) northwest of Tecpan, Mexico, according to the Mexican National Seismological Service, which measured the quake at 7.0.
The quake’s depth at the epicenter was a shallow 6 miles (10 kilometers), Mexican officials said.
At least one building was damaged in Mexico City, nearly seven hours away.
Tecpan is 54 miles (87 kilometers) northwest of Acapulco.

A powerful, magnitude-7.5 earthquake shook central and southern Mexico on Friday. The U.S. Geological Survey said it was centered northwest of the Pacific resort of Acapulco, where many Mexicans are vacationing for the Easter holiday.
The quake was felt strongly in the resort city, as well as in Mexico’s capital, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
“There is a crisis of panic,” said Alicia Dominguez, who answered the phone at the civil protection office. “It’s mainly the tourists who are shaken.” Civil protection officials were patrolling the city to check for damage and casualties.

米地質調査所（ＵＳＧＳ）などによると、メキシコ南部で１８日午前９時２７分（日本時間同日午後１１時２７分）ごろ、マグニチュード（Ｍ）７級の大きな地震があった。ＵＳＧＳは当初、Ｍ７・５と発表し、その後、Ｍ７・２に修正した。津波警報は出ていない。
日本の気象庁によると、日本への津波の心配はないという。
震源は南部ゲレロ州テクパンの北３６キロで、震源の深さは２４キロ。
震源から約２７０キロ離れた首都のメキシコ市でも強くて長い揺れが感じられた。死傷者や被害の有無は不明。

メキシコ南部ゲレロ州で１８日午前９時２７分ごろ、マグニチュード（Ｍ）７．２の地震が発生した。震源はゲレロ州テクパンの北北西３６キロ。米地質調査所（ＵＳＧＳ）は、震源の深さを２４キロとしている。
地震の揺れは、震源の北東２７３キロに位置する首都メキシコ市でも感じられた。メキシコ市のマンセラ市長によると、市内で少なくとも１棟の建物に被害が出たが、大きな被害の報告はないという。
また同市のルーゴ市民保護長官によると、市内の一部で停電が発生し、エレベーター内に人が閉じ込められる被害が出たが、負傷者の報告はないという。
テクパンは、リゾート地アカプルコの北西８７キロに位置する。アカプルコの市民保護局によると、基本的なサービスへの被害の報告はなく、各サービスは平常通り運営されているという。

米地質調査所によると、メキシコ南部で８日正午（日本時間９日午前２時）頃、マグニチュード（Ｍ）６・４の地震があった。
震源地はゲレロ州テクパンの北約１５キロ・メートルで、震源の深さは約２４キロ・メートル。
ＡＰ通信などによると、テクパンで橋が一部崩れるなどしたが、負傷者が出たとの情報はない。ゲレロ州では４月１８日にもテクパン北方を震源とするＭ７・２の地震があり、今回はその余震とみられる。
