立秋から2日目。
気温は相変わらず30度を切っていませんが、ひんやりとした仄かな風が吹くようになりました。
きょうのトップニュースは「台風」。
熱中症の話題もフェードアウトしそうです。

 気象庁は8日、沖縄県の南海上で熱帯低気圧が台風4号になったと発表した。9日朝に先島諸島を通過した後、10日にかけて勢力を維持したまま九州西側の東シナ海を北上する見込み。同庁は、沖縄、奄美地方での高波や強風のほか、東海地方以西の太平洋側を中心に大雨が予想されるとして注意を呼び掛けた。

The enduring standard had first been a major song hit in 1933, recorded most successfully then by both Ethel Waters and the Leo Reisman orchestra with a Harold Arlen vocal. This famous version, waxed by Lena near the end of 1941, reached its peak of popularity during the theatrical run of the 1943 film musical “Stormy Weather” in which she appeared with a star-studded African-American cast.

A track from the pictured 16-inch 33 1/3 electrical transcription disc (aka “radio transcription” or “broadcast transcription”) containing music recordings created specifically for radio station use but not issued for sale on commercial 78rpm discs. One of several transcription companies, the NBC Thesaurus brand was manufactured by RCA.
Fancy instrumental arrangement of the classic Ted Koehler-Harold Arlen lament. Roth, who recorded a large number of transcription discs over the years, may also be remembered as leader of the studio orchestra for Milton Berle’s historic early TV variety program 1948-1955.

One of several popular recordings of the Harold Arlen-Ted Koehler standard from “Cotton Club Parade,” this Ellington release boasted a flip side of Duke’s Brunswick arrangement of his “Sophisticated Lady.”

Freddy Martin conducts yet another among the numerous fine recordings of the Harold Arlen-Ted Koehler standard from “Cotton Club Parade.” Though New York State arranger-bandleader Bob Causer is not known to have released any recordings under his own name, that name was frequently used as a pseudonym on various ARC issues, many of them led by Martin.
