1941 NBC’s Chamber Music Society II: 03 Lady Of The Evening (Paul Laval-instrumental)
This track was issued as one of eight in Victor’s third of four early-1940s album sets that featured cast members of NBC’s weekly program “The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street.” The tongue-in-cheek presentations of jazz, blues and Dixieland were performed by studio musicians led by Henry Levine and Paul Laval with vocals during the early seasons by Dinah Shore, Lena Horne and Linda Keene. Spoken introductions to the four instrumental tracks on this album are provided by Gene Hamilton. Wikipedia’s entry “The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street” has additional details about the program.
All eight of these individual album tracks are also available for continuous sequential listening in a single 25-minute video posted under the title “1941 full album: NBC’s Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street II”

Lovely brass ensemble arrangement of the sentimental WWI ballad, also a major best-seller for vocalist Henry Burr. Though her name may be unfamiliar to most, musician-composer-author Edna White had quite a long and interesting career. Check her out on Wiki.

The internationally-known Scottish singer and comedian was purported to have been the first British artist to sell a million records. This was one of his most famous tunes, which he recorded several times for various labels, including a longer 12-inch Victor (70061) which featured an 80-second spoken dialogue.
