ギタリストで、ギブソン・ギター社のエレキギター「レス・ポール」を開発したレス・ポールさん（９４）が１３日、ニューヨーク州の病院で死去した。ギブソン社によると、死因は肺炎による合併症という。
１９１５年、ウィスコンシン州生まれ。妻で歌手だったメリー・フォードさん（７７年に５３歳で死去）と４９年から６２年にデュエットを組み、５０年代に「ハウ・ハイ・ザ・ムーン」など数々のヒット曲を出した。
