TEHRAN, Iran — At least 140 people have been killed and 860 injured in a 7.3-magnitude earthquake which struck the border between Iran and northern Iraq, officials in Iran’s Kermanshah Province said early Monday.
The death toll is expected to rise as a spokesman for Iran’s Interior Ministry said rescue efforts in the mainly Kurdish region could only begin properly after sunrise.
The quake’s epicenter was in a remote mountainous region of Iraq, some 125 miles northeast of Baghdad and 250 miles west of Tehran, according to the U.S. Geological Agency.
An aftershock of magnitude 4.5 was registered shortly after the quake struck late Sunday and was followed by another aftershock in the early hours of Monday measuring 4.7.

DUBAI （Reuters） – At least 61 people were killed and 300 injured by a quake in Iran’s Kermanshah province on the Iraqi border on Sunday, state television reported.
The television quoted an emergency services official as saying that many of the victims were in the town of Sarpol-e Zahab, about 15 km （10 miles） from the border.

　中東のイラクとイラン国境近くで日本時間１３日未明、マグニチュード７．３の地震があり、これまでに少なくとも１０人が死亡した。
　アメリカ地質調査所によると日本時間１３日午前３時１８分頃、イラク北東部、イランとの国境近くでマグニチュードは７．３の地震があった。揺れは震源から２００キロ以上離れたイラクの首都バグダッドでも観測された。
　現地メディアによると国境に近いイラン側の町で少なくとも６人が死亡、イラク側で４人が死亡した。またイラク側では５００人以上がケガをしたという。

【テヘラン共同】イランのイラク国境付近で１２日夜、強い地震があり、イランの当局者は１３日、同国側の死者が少なくとも100人に上り、負傷者は千人を超えたと語った。イラク北部のクルド自治政府によると、イラク側でも４人が死亡し数十人が負傷した。米地質調査所（ＵＳＧＳ）によるとマグニチュード（Ｍ）７・３で、震源はイラク北東部ハラブジャから南へ３２キロの山岳地帯。震源の深さは２３・２キロ。
　クルド人自治区の中心都市アルビルやイラクの首都バグダッドでも強い揺れを感じたという。両国政府は被害の確認を急いでいる。
　イランの地元当局者は「避難住民は５万人を超える可能性がある」と述べた。

　イランとイラクの国境地帯で１２日午後９時２０分ごろ（日本時間１３日午前３時２０分ごろ）、米地質調査所（ＵＳＧＳ）の観測でマグニチュード７・３の強い地震があった。イラン、イラク両政府によると、少なくとも３３６人が死亡、４４００人超が負傷した。日本外務省によると、死傷者に日本人がいるという情報はない。
　ＵＳＧＳによると、震源はイラン・イラク国境近くで、イラク北東部ハラブジャの南西約３０キロのイラン国内。震源の深さは約２５キロ。イラン内務省によると、イランでは３２８人が死亡、３９００人超が負傷。イラク保健省によると、イラクでは８人が死亡、５００人超が負傷した。
　イランやイラクのメディアによると、震源周辺は山岳地帯で、各地で土砂崩れが発生して進入路が寸断され、救助活動が難航している場所が多いという。

　特に被害が大きいのは、震源に近いイラン西部ケルマンシャー州だ。イランメディアなどによると、日干しれんがを積み重ねた建物が多く、死傷者の多くは倒壊家屋の下敷きになったという。余震も１３０回以上続いているという。
　一方、イラクメディアなどによると、少数民族クルド人主導のクルディスタン地域政府の自治区内にある東部スレイマニア県で計７人、首都バグダッド北東のディヤラ州で１人が死亡した。
　地震はトルコやクウェート、サウジアラビアなどの周辺国でも観測された。
　被災地は朝夕の冷え込みが厳しく、住民の健康状態の悪化が懸念されるため、イラン、イラク両政府に加え、トルコなど周辺国や国際人道組織も救助隊や支援要員を派遣。住民の救助や人道支援を行っている。
