スペインの最高裁判所は、バスク地方の分離独立を目指す民族組織「バスク祖国と自由（ETA）」のメンバー3人に対し、2006年にマドリードバラハス空港にテロ攻撃を仕掛けた罪で1000年以上の懲役刑を言い渡した。21日に関係者が明らかにした。
この3人以外にも、すでに数人のETAメンバーが1000年の懲役刑を言い渡されている。スペインの刑期は40年が最長だが、同国では死刑を実施していない。
ETAは2006年3月に一方的に停戦を宣言したが、このテロ事件はその停戦中に発生した。当時はこの停戦宣言により、800人以上の死者を出したとされるETAの数十年に及ぶ暴力行為が終結すると期待されていた。

With well over a million copies sold, this sad ballad was one of the most popular discs of the early 20th Century （helped along by the flip side–actually the original designated A-side–“Wreck Of The Old 97”. Dalhart, who was under no exclusive Victor recording contract, also made versions of the song for several other labels; and in early 1926 he re-recorded the same arrangement of “The Prisoner’s Song” for Victor using the new higher-fidelity ‘electrical’ process. That version was issued using the same 78 number. Not only that, but in mid-1925 he had performed an unbilled vocal of the song backed by a full orchestra conducted by VIctor’s music director Nat Shilkret

Interesting waltz-tempo version of the country-folk classic by the Victor studio orchestra, conducted by Nat Shilkret. Vernon Dalhart, who was not signed exclusively to any one record company at the time, recorded the tune for just about every label–large and small–selling millions of copies in the process. Though his own performances generally featured simple guitar accompaniment with a handful of additional background musicians, here he’s backed by a full studio orchestra, sings only one verse, and receives no label credit beyond the ubiquitous “vocal refrain.”

Dalhart had originally recorded his signature ballad for Victor–and several other labels–more than a year earlier, eventually selling well over a million copies. Because the first Victor version （recorded acoustically） continued to sell in large numbers into 1926, the powers-that-be decided to upgrade the track with this new higher-fidelity electrically recorded version, which they issued on the same numbered 78 disc.
Note: please excuse the surface noise at the open, but this post is the correct Take #6, which was the version released on Victor （electric） 78 in 1926. When Dalhart’s “The Prisoner’s Song” has appeared over the decades on various LP and CD issues, a different take has been used. Note the subtle ‘cry’ in his voice during the final verse which you won’t hear in the commonly-available reissues of the electric version.
Bunny Berigan and his Orchestra – The Prisoner’s Song（1937 instrumental full length version）
This was the flip side of Berigan’s signature Victor recording “I Can’t Get Started.” Due to the extended lengths of both tracks, they were originally pressed on a 12-inch 78 disc and also later issued as edited versions in the more common 10-inch format.

Following her then-anonymous appearance earlier in the year as Cinderella G. Stump on the surprise #1 best-selling Ingle novelty “Tim-Tayshun”, Stafford recorded just this one additional piece with the group in December. For whatever reason, Capitol held off issuing the single until December of 1948, at which time Jo was given top label billing. As had been done with “Tim-Tayshun,” the voices here appear to indicate that the original recording was sped up a bit to create the single master.

『第９監房の反乱（Riot In Cell Block Number Nine）』というノベルティータッチのＲ＆Ｂがあります。歌っているのはザ・ロビンズ。リードボーカルは後にザ・コースターズへ移籍するカール・ガードナーです。
１９５４年に発売されたこのレコードは監獄の反乱をコミカルなタッチで描いてまして、ワンダ・ジャクソン、ドクター・フィールグッド、ブルース・ブラザーズの歌でもヒットしております。
またエルビス・プレスリー『トラブル』のパクリ元であることでも知られていますね。
『フィーバー』『１６トン』『ワーク・ソング』はいかにもですが、『ビー・バップ・ア・ルーラ』などもこの系統と言っていいでしょう。

無期懲役刑の受刑者で仮釈放を許可するかどうかの審査を昨年受けた２４人のうち、不許可が１８人と７５％を占め、過去１０年間の平均の３４・６％を大幅に上回ったことが、法務省のまとめでわかった。

「無期刑」とは、刑期に「期」限が「無」いことを意味し、これは刑期を定めない、あるいは刑期の上限を定めないという絶対的不定期刑を意味するわけではなく、刑期の終わりが無い、つまり刑期が一生涯にわたるもの（受刑者が死亡するまでその刑を科するというもの）を意味し、有期懲役より重い刑罰、死刑に次ぐものとされており、英語では「Life（一生涯の） imprisonment（拘禁）」との語が充てられている。 ただし、現在の刑法２８条では無期刑の受刑者にも仮釈放（刑期の途中において一定の条件下で釈放する制度）によって社会に復帰できる可能性を認めており、同条の規定上１０年を経過すればその可能性が認められる点で、日本の現行法制度に存在する無期刑は、仮釈放による社会復帰の可能性が無い終身刑（絶対的無期刑）とは異なる。

なるほど、無期懲役、必ずしも終身刑でない日本はどちらかというと特殊らしい。
無期懲役になるような罪は相当重いはず。なのに曖昧な判定で仮釈放され出所する。
このへんはこれから広く議論され、見直しが図られていくべきという気がします。
いづれにせよ、昔とは比較にならないほど複雑な社会、込み入った人間関係の中で生きているわれわれ現代人は、自己と他者に対する責任を常に考えて慎重に行動しないといけませんね。
とりわけ、私のように血気に逸り激情に駆られて前後の見境がなくなるタイプは、要注意です。

米オハイオ州クリーブランドで若い女性３人が約１０年間にわたって監禁され、性的暴行を繰り返された事件で、地元の裁判所は１日、求刑通り、拉致や強姦などの罪に問われたアリエル・カストロ被告（５３）に対して、仮釈放なしの終身刑と禁錮千年を言い渡した。

メキシコ北部ヌエボレオン州の刑務所で１０日深夜、敵対するギャングのリーダー間のけんかに端を発した大規模な暴動が起き、４９人が死亡した。ヌエボレオン州知事の報道官が明らかにした。
事件が起きたのは同州モンテレイにあるトポ・チコ刑務所。１２人がけがをし、うち５人は重篤な状態だという。
ビデオには、刑務所から上る炎が捉えられている。囚人が内部で放火したためだという。
暴動は１０日午後１１時半ごろ始まり、翌１１日の午前１時半ごろに鎮圧されたという。
刑務所の周囲には、出動した州軍と国軍の部隊、それに受刑者たちの親族が集まった。

トルコの国営メディアであるアナドル通信社は２０２３年９月７日に、記事作成時点で２９歳のFaruk Fatih Özerとその兄弟であるGüvenとSerapに、それぞれ懲役１万１１９６年の懲役刑と１億３５００万リラ（約７億３６００万円）の罰金刑が言い渡されたと報じました。
Thodexは、２０１７年にKoineksとしてトルコで設立され、２０２０年３月に社名を現行のものに変更した仮想通貨取引所です。当時、トルコリラの下落と激しいインフレに見舞われていたトルコでは仮想通貨が財産を守る方法として注目されており、Thodexはその流れに乗ってトルコの大手仮想通貨取引所のひとつになりました。しかし、２０２１年４月に突然サイトがつながらなくなり、Özerら関係者も行方をくらましました。
伝えられるところによると、Thodexの閉鎖により自分の資金にアクセスできなくなったユーザーは４０万人と推定されており、被害総額は２０億ドル（約２９２８億４８００万円）と見積もられたとのこと。
その後の捜査により、Özerは顧客から預かった２億５３００万リラ（約１３億７９００万円）相当の資金を３つの秘密口座に送金し、アルバニアに逃亡していたことがわかりました。そして、国際刑事警察機構（インターポール）による国際逮捕手配書、通称「赤手配書」を受けたアルバニア当局により２０２２年８月に逮捕されました。
２０２３年４月にトルコに引き渡されたÖzerに対し、検察は「詐欺」「犯罪組織の設立」「犯罪による資金の洗浄」の罪で懲役４万４６２年の刑を求刑していたほか、この事件で立件ないし逮捕されていたÖzerの家族およびThodexの関係者ら２０人もさまざまな容疑で訴追されました。
