Keith Colley – Cuando La Luna(1964/03)
“Recorded Live”とあるが、かなり演出している感じ。
1:50 のところで、ルーターズ『レッツ・ゴー(ポニー)』のような手拍子が入る。

Recorded in February 1964 and issued the following month, this lively Latin diddy by Mr. Colley is the fourth of five singles that he would record with Unical Records between June 1963 and May 1964.’Cuando La Luna’ was yet another unsuccessful attempt at scoring a hit by using the similar formula as in his hit,’Enamorado’ from the Fall of 1963. (The nearly identical sounding follow up,’Queridita Mia (Little Darlin’)’ flopped) For Unical #3013 however, the track was beefed up with an overdubbed energetic audience sound effect. Although a decent production it went by unnoticed.

Shiny Brothers – Smilesville, U.S.A.(1964/11)

Out of Los Angeles, the first of three known discs issued on the microscopic Pennsylvania based label. The company was owned by a dentist in Los Angeles with funding for the operation provided by Helen R. Blumberg who ran her non-profit corporation out of the city of Rydal in the’Keystone State’. In October 1963, Blumberg copyrighted and patented the’Doctor Shiny-Teeth Dental Kit’ for boys and girls.
Intended as a promotion tool for Blumberg’s dental kits and mission to provide dental care to poor children, the session for’Smilesville, U.S.A.’ was recorded at Hollywood’s Gold Star Studios. With the Wrecking Crew providing the rhythm track with an arrangement by Al Capps, the lead vocals credited to the Shiny Brothers was nothing more than an unknown studio group of vocalists. It’s quite possible that a similar production issued in January 1964 on the Valiant label,’Big “T”‘ credited as the Reveres utilized some of the same personnel. The flip side of the DOC single entitled,’The Brush’ is a’Wrecking Crew’ instrumental composed by Al Capps.
In 1965, Helen Blumberg financed a final disc credited to the SMILEY BROTHERS. It was produced and recorded in Pennsylvania and issued on the Doctor Shiny Teeth label entitled,’Do The Brush’ /’The Club Marching Song’.
