Mel Tormé – Careless Hands(1949)
orchestra conducted by Sonny Burke

In contrast to the (also-posted) ballad-style treatment by the Sammy Kaye band, Torme’s “Careless Hands” got a bright hand-clapping arrangement from Sonny Burke, reaching #7 on Billboard’s best-sellers chart and #1 on the radio airplay listings. Mel’s ballads “Blue Moon” and “Again” are also included in this 1949 collection.

Eileen Barton with the New Yorkers – If I Knew You Were Comin’ I’d’ve Baked A Cake(1950/02)
冒頭、ノックを模した音。

This novelty record took off for #1 so rapidly that the small National label wasn’t able to keep up with the demand; so they worked out an agreement with Mercury Records, who took over part of the manufacturing and distribution responsibilities. Thus, if you spend much time scrounging for old 78s, you’re likely to find this same recording on two different labels.
