南アフリカ南東部の港湾都市ダーバンを含む一帯では、先週以降、激しい雨が断続的に降っていて、各地で浸水や土砂崩れが起きています。
現地からの映像では、多くの建物や高速道路の一部が水につかっているほか、土砂崩れによって住宅が壊れている様子が確認できます。
また、浸水被害は、港の設備にも及んでいるほか、トヨタ自動車によりますと、ダーバンにある組み立て工場の操業が一時停止されました。
こうした中、地元当局は１３日、ダーバンがある州で、これまでに２５９人の死亡が確認されたと発表しました。
