At least 37 people were injured on Saturday when a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Albania.
The earthquake struck along Albania’s central coast near the port city of Durrës, according to the United States Geological Survey, about 35 kilometers west of the capital Tirana.
A trauma hospital in Tirana reported 37 injuries, according to public broadcaster Albanian Radio and TV.
Prime Minister Edi Rama canceled a trip to New York, CNN affiliate A2 reported, and he’s expected to return home from Frankfurt.

Tirana, 1 novembre 2019 – Torna a tremare la terra in Albania. Un terremoto di magnitudo 5.2 della scala Richter è stato avvertito questa mattina poco dopo le 9 in molte zone del Paese. Lo segnala l’Istituto sismologico albanese. L’epicentro si colloca vicino alla città di Corizza, nel Sud Est, non lontano dal confine con la Grecia. L’ipocentro a una profondità di 25 chilometri. Panico fra la gente che si è riversata nelle strade. Il sisma avrebbe provocato danni materiali, ma – stando ai media locali – non si segnalano persone colpite. Lievi tremori sono stati avvertiti anche in Salento – riportano i media locali – nonostante la maggior parte della popolazione a quell’ora （6:25 del mattino） stesse dormendo.

Una violenta scossa di terremoto di magnitudo 5.2 è stata registrata in Albania ieri 1 novembre, seguita da altre scosse meno forti. Il terremoto è stato avvertito, seppure lievemente, anche in Salento, nel Nord della Macedonia e in Grecia.
L’epicentro era situato vicino alla città di Korça, nel centro-sud dell’Albania, a 25 chilometri di profondità. Ci sono stati parecchi danni materiali a strutture ed edifici della zona, soprattutto i più vecchi, ma per fortuna non ci sono stati feriti anche se il sisma ha seminato il panico in varie città, tra cui Devoll, Kolonja, Elbasan e la capitale Tirana, inducendo la gente a riversarsi in strada per timore di nuove scosse più forti.

Magnitude 6.4 quake struck at shallow depth, causing buildings to collapse in Tirana and nearby towns
At least six people have died and 300 people have been injured after the most powerful earthquake to hit Albania in decades rocked the capital, Tirana, and surrounding region, causing several buildings to collapse and burying residents in the rubble.
The 6.4-magnitude quake struck shortly before 4am local time （0300 GMT） on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said, the second powerful tremor to hit the region in two months. It was centred 19 miles west of Tirana, at a shallow depth of six miles. Scores of aftershocks included three with preliminary magnitudes of between 5.1 and 5.4.
Albanian president Ilir Meta said the situation in the town of Thumane, closest to the epicentre, was very dramatic. “All efforts are being made to take the people out of the ruins,” he said, and called on the cabinet to request international assistance. Neighbouring countries, the European Union and the United States have all offered immediate support.

At least four people died after the most powerful earthquake to hit Albania in decades rocked the capital of Tirana and surrounding region early on Tuesday, causing several buildings to collapse and burying residents in the rubble.
The 6.4 magnitude quake struck shortly before 4 a.m. local time （0300 GMT）, the U.S. Geological Survey （USGS） said, the second powerful tremor to hit the region in two months.
It was centred 30 km （19 miles） west of Tirana, at a shallow depth of 10 km （6 miles）, the USGS said.
Two women were found in the rubble of an apartment building in the northern village of Thumane, and a man died in the town of Kurbin after panicking and jumping out of a building, a Defence Ministry spokeswoman said.
A dead body, the fourth victim of the earthquake, was pulled out from under a collapsed building in Durres, the defence ministry confirmed.
Emergency workers told local media one of those killed was an elderly woman who had managed to save her grandson by cradling him with her body.
