A 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled Southern California on Friday, the day after the most powerful earthquake struck the region in two decades.
The earthquake could be felt from Las Vegas to the California coast and people as far away as Phoenix reported feeling the rumblings.
No deaths have been reported but there have been medical calls, officials said.
The epicenter of the temblor was about 10 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, in the desert, the same area where Thursday’s earthquake was recorded. That 6.4 magnitude quake was called the strongest to hit Southern California since 1999, but Friday’s quake was more powerful.
Kern County Fire Chief David Witt said the department had received calls for medical aid but knew of no deaths. There have been no reports of major building collapses, he said, but the department had responded to some structure fires.

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has rattled a desert area of Southern California, US meteorologists say, in the biggest tremor to strike in two decades.
It struck at the shallow depth of 0.9km （0.6 miles） and its epicentre was near the city of Ridgecrest, about 240km north-east of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said nobody had been killed or injured.
A 6.4 magnitude quake hit the same region on Thursday at a depth of nearly 11km.
A statement after the latest quake said the authorities had seen “no major infrastructure damage” after a survey of the city.
There were however reports of local power outages after the new quake.
Thursday’s event wrecked some homes in the region.

ＵＳＧＳ＝アメリカの地質調査所によりますと、日本時間の６日午後０時１９分ごろ、アメリカ西部カリフォルニア州で地震がありました。
震源地は、カリフォルニア州のリッジクレストで、震源の深さは０・９キロ、地震の規模を示すマグニチュードは７・１と推定されています。
ハワイにある太平洋津波警報センターは、この地震による津波のおそれはないとしています。
地震が起きた時、震源から２００キロ余り離れたカリフォルニア州サンタモニカでは、小刻みな横揺れが徐々に大きくなり、数十秒間、揺れが続きました。
部屋にあるテレビがガタガタと揺れたほか、建物全体がギシギシときしむような音を立てていました。

米地質調査所（ＵＳＧＳ）によると、米国西部カリフォルニア州リッジクレストで５日午後８時１９分（日本時間６日午後０時１９分）頃、マグニチュード（Ｍ）７・１の地震があった。前日にＭ６・４の地震があったばかりで、その後は余震が続いていた。
　震源地はロサンゼルスから北東に約２４０キロに位置する砂漠地帯。

現時点で被害状況は判明していない。
　震源はロサンゼルス北方約200キロのリッジクレスト市付近で、4日午前にＭ６・４の地震が起きた場所と同じ地域。リッジクレストでは４日の地震で、数人が軽いけがをしたほか、数件の家が火災に見舞われた。

同地域では過去２０年で最大規模の地震だという。ロイター通信によると、目立った被害は確認されていない。

４日のＭ６・４、５日のＭ７・１と立て続けに大きな揺れ。
しかも今回は震源の深さが０・９キロとひどく浅い。
断層型地震らしいが、シェールガス坑井掘削が影響してるかもしれんね。

目立った被害はないと云うけれど、コンビニ店内の惨状には同情する。
カリフォルニアワインの瓶もわれてるし……
