In what New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called a “cowardly act of terror,” a man driving a rental truck struck and killed eight people on a bike path Tuesday afternoon.
The sprawling crime scene runs about 10 blocks along the West Side Highway, a few blocks away from One World Trade Center.
Witness Andrew Howell said he was walking along the path when he saw a truck plow into two cyclists riding about 20 feet in front of him; he said the impact sent one of the victims straight up into the air, and the man was motionless when he landed back on the ground. The driver then continued at a high speed before crashing, Howell said.
A uniformed police officer was credited with stopping the carnage.
A suspect is in custody and was identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov of Tampa, Florida, multiple law enforcement officials told ABC News.

Roy Orbison, master of the romantic yet slightly eerie country ballad, died in 1988 – but will tour the UK again in 2018, albeit in holographic form.
Using 3D projection technology that has previously brought the likes of Tupac Shakur and Michael Jackson back to visible life, Orbison will be backed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra on the 10-date tour. His son Alex described it as “a dream setup”.
With his signature dark glasses giving him an air of mystery, Orbison had huge hits with In Dreams, Only the Lonely, Crying, and Oh, Pretty Woman. He also faced tragedy: his wife died in a motorbike crash and his two eldest sons died in a house fire. Orbison died of a heart attack aged just 52. His iconic look, mellifluous croon and timeless songwriting means that he retains a strong fanbase.

１９８８年に亡くなったロイ・オービソンが、ホログラムとなり、２０１８年春UKでロイヤル・フィルハーモニック・コンサート・オーケストラとツアーを行なうことが明らかになった。
オービソンの息子アレックスは「父はロックンロールとオーケストラのサウンドを合体した第一人者の一人だった。だから、ビッグ・オーケストラと父を満喫できるこの公演は夢のセットアップだ」と、プロモーターの Danny Betesh は「現代的かつ創造的な方法でステージに戻ってきたロイを観られるなんて興奮する」とコメントしている。

２０１８年４月８日から２０日まで、ロンドン、バーミンガム、マンチェスター、エディンバラ、リバプールなどUK１０都市で１０公演が開かれる。
