【シドニー＝共同】米地質調査所（ＵＳＧＳ）によると、南太平洋・パプアニューギニアのブーゲンビル島で２２日午後３時半（日本時間同１時半）ごろ、マグニチュード（Ｍ）８．０の地震があった。米ハワイの太平洋津波警報センターはソロモン諸島など周辺国に津波警報を出した。
震源はブーゲンビル島パングナの西４０キロ、震源の深さは約１５４キロ。
日本の気象庁は日本への津波の恐れはないとしている。

Magnitude 7.9 quake strikes off Papua New Guinea

（CNN）A magnitude 7.9 earthquake has struck west of Papua New Guinea.
The quake was 153 kilometers （95.5 miles） deep and centered 40 kilometers （24 miles） west of the town of Panguna, according to the US Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has advised that tsunami waves of up to a meter above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Papua New Guinea and nearby Solomon Islands.
Preliminary reports said the earthquake, which occurred at 2:30 p.m. local time Sunday （11:30 p.m. Saturday ET） measured 8.0 but USGS later downgraded its magnitude.

Tsunami warning after magnitude 8.4 earthquake rocks Papua New Guinea

A tsunami warning has been issued after a magnitude 8.4 earthquake struck Papua New Guinea on Sunday afternoon.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued an alert saying “widespread hazardous tsunami waves are possible” for some coastal areas of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Nauru and Vanuatu.
The earthquake, with a depth of 168 kilometres, hit the island of Bougainville at 3.30pm Sydney time. It struck 47 kilometres west of Arawa on Bougainville island, Papua New Guinea, the United States Geological Survey reported on Sunday.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no threat to Australia.

Earthquake strikes Papua New Guinea
The US Geological Survey says an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 struck near Papua New Guinea at 4:30 UTC on Sunday.
It says the quake occurred at a depth of about 130 kilometers off Bougainville Island.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii says there is a possibility of a tsunami in the vicinity, including Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
The officials at the center say a tsunami between 30 centimeters and one meter in height could hit those areas.
