フィリピン沿岸警備隊は１９日、同国中部パナイ島沖で１８日夕に小型船が転覆し、乗客７人が死亡、２人が行方不明になったと明らかにした。現場海域は事故当時、台風２４号の影響で荒れており、フィリピン国内ではほかにも倒木の下敷きになるなどして２人が死亡。台風の影響による死者は計９人となった。
台風２４号は１８日にルソン島北部に上陸し、１９日にかけて同島を横断。今後北上し、台湾や沖縄県・先島諸島方面に向かう見通し。
